I'm sure that I am the only one that hasn't heard of Baked Grilled Cheese Sandwiches. I have always made my grilled cheese sandwiches on the stove, which is fine if you are just making one or two sandwich, but if you have a big group like mine standing there making more then ones starts to become a chore.
When we go out to eat I can always bet that my son is going to order Grilled Cheese Sandwich and French Fries from the kids menu. Carson is a creature of habit and hardly every changes his mind. I have to admit some of the Restaurants have the best grilled cheese sandwiches, I always wonder to myself how come mine aren't as crispy and good as the ones we get when we eat out. I know its just a grilled cheese sandwich but some of them are super delicious that I almost want to order a kids meal for myself.
I came across the recipe for Baked Grilled Cheese Sandwiches online one day. It was a light bulb moment. Kind of like the day i figured out you can cook bacon in the oven instead of sitting there frying it up on the stove trying to get all the little ends just as crispy as the rest of the bacon. The sandwiches came out so golden brown and crispy on the outside just like the way they are served in the restaurants and the kids loved them!!!
Cooks Note:
I used Sharp Cheddar Cheese Slices and used real butter instead of margarine. Next time I'm going to use Velveeta Cheese Slices and add some sliced ham on a few of the sandwiches. My husband loves the Velveeta slices.

Thanks for the post girlfriend.
Talk to you again soon.
Stephanie it never occurred to me to bake them in the oven either. LOL I am telling you if you use real butter and bake them they are so cripy and good. Isnt it funny how we never think of the most simple things.
And to the other Stephanie my son is a PB & J man himself but his appetite is evolving. LOL. Theres hope.
I have a little tip for everyone, too. Instead of buttering the outside of your bread for grilled sandwiches with butter or margarine, use mayonaise instead. It makes the bread crispier and brown more evenly. Please note that the the mayo will give a slightly salty taste, but so does salted butter! :)
And I sure never heard of using mayo instead of butter!I'll try that too.
