Tonight I'm making our favorite Salisbury Steak & Gravy. Its a whopping 102 degrees here in North Texas, but that's the usual for this time of year. I will be making this recipe in the crock pot so I don't have to crank up the oven. In the summer and winter months my crock pot is my best friend.
This recipe doesn't take all day to cook like most crock pot meals. You will be preparing half of this recipe on the stove top and then let the crock pot do the rest. This dish is so simple to and made with pantry staple ingredients. I serve my Salisbury Steak with Mashed Potatoes or Pasta, but its also good with rice.
Mix the first 5 ingredients together you can use crack crumbs or bread crumbs.
shape into ovals about ¾ inches thick and place in skillet with just a little bit of oil.
Sear the patties in a skillet until brown.
Add onion mushroom and beef broth heat to boiling. Reduce heat cover and simmer for 10 minutes. I did not add mushrooms this time because my husband asked if i could leave them out the next time I made this dish :( Bummer!!
Remove patties to a casserole dish or plate and keep warm.Mix gravy packet according to packet directions. (1 cup water added to gravy mix)
Heat mixture until boiling. Mix water and cornstarch together to make a paste. Add to boiling mixture. Use a wire whisk and whisk until gravy begins to thicken. Make sure to watch your pan, because the cornstarch will thicken rather quickly you don't want lumps of cornstarch. My kiddos had a tug of war with my whisk and it broke so i am using a large fork.
add the prepared gravy mixture. The original recipe i got years and years ago did not call for any extra gravy. I found after the first time i prepared the recipe the it just wasn't hearty enough for me so i add the additional gravy mix and the flavor is perfect.
Using the wire whisk again whisk the gravy until it is smooth and thickened. It really comes off with a hearty brown color by adding the additional gravy.
add the Salisbury steak patties to your crock pot and pour the gravy over the patties. Cover and cook on low for 3 hours.
There you go. This recipe is so good I have been making my Salisbury Steak this way for years.

My husband said this is his new favorite meal! I called my mother to tell her about them and she is picking up the ingredients on her way home! My sister in law is making them tomorrow! This has taken the family by storm! EVERYONE LOVED THEM!
It is a rare thing when I find a new dish that pleases everyone but I can tell you right now that this is a new family favorite which has instantly made it into our permanent recipe file!!! I will be making these OFTEN!
I cannot thank you enough for posting it! Oh, also want to add that it is a very economical meal and one that can be made easily enough with kids barking at your heels the whole time! This is definitely Mommy Friendly!!!
I am so thrilled you liked the hoe cake as much as we do! Your post flattered me, had my blushing, and GRINNING from ear to ear! That was the first time I had seen someone else's pics of a recipe I had posted!!! I'm still gushing!!!!
Love ya, Tina!!!

I just had to drop you a line and let you know how much we loved the Salisbury steak recipe. We have tasted the error of our ways, and will never buy the frozen stuff again. This recipe was so easy to put together, I actually doubted if it would taste anything like a Salisbury steak. Oh my......it was the best!!Thanks so much for sharing and I'll be back for more of your tasty recipes. Regards,Terry
and i don't eat much meat, but after all these reviews i must admit i am tempted to give this recipe a whirl. it's just me eating, but freezing singly for colder weather meals sounds good.
thanks for digging deep into your recipe box and sharing!
This was delicious, made to good. I gave some to my sister and NO JOKE she calls once a week wanting me to make it for her. (She can't cook at all) Which of course I do, being a good sister and all; can't deprive her for GREAT food! Lucky for her my husband and kids loved it as well.
I also made the hoe cake with it, that was a first as well. Amazing, I make it all time now.
Thanks!
Colleen
