Orange Coffee Cake & I'm going to see My Girl Woot Woot!!!

I made Paula Deens Orange Coffee Cake for Easter Morning. It was really good, but no surprise there It's a Paula Deen Recipe. My husband loves the Pillsbury orange rolls so he really liked this coffee cake. My oldest son said it was good but the little guys dislike nuts so they passed on tasting it.

This coffeecake was really easy to prepare and utilizes canned flaky grands biscuits. I had seen the Paula Deen Episode a couple days before on making breakfast and brunch ideas and this coffee cake was so simple I had to make it. You lay the biscuits out into a flower shape so it really turns out so pretty.

I made Overnight Crock Pot Oatmeal to serve along with the coffee cake. A few of my readers have prepared the overnight oatmeal recipe. Well, I have been playing around with the cooking method a bit because it just wasn't up to my satisfaction. So, I wanted to let everyone know that I made some revisions to the recipe.

If you have made or plan on making the overnight oatmeal please click on the link and read the revisions, I am so much happier preparing the oatmeal with the water bath method. It really takes care of the problem of the oatmeal getting brown and hard around the edges.

OK now everyone now bear with me a bit. I have some exciting news for me and my dd. We are going to an event Thursday April 23rd and both of us are just beside ourselves with excitement. I have to tell you about it. My Girl........................ Paula Deen is coming to Plano, Texas to promote her New Cookbook. ~~Happy Dance~~ Well, Mackenzie and I got TICKETS!!! IKE'S........

I cant believe it! better yet I cant believe she is coming to Texas. I saw the listings on her site for all the book signings and scrolled down and saw that she was coming to our part of town, I said GET OUT OF HERE!!! No Way! I called the book store and jumped on it, they didn't even know what I was talking about LOL I was so excited.

The marketing manager told me he would keep my email and let me know when the tickets would go on sale. He said I was the first caller about the event to funny. Well I got a email saying that that me and my dd were confirmed for two of the 250 people for "A Conversations with Paula Deen".

The tickets went on sale the day her cookbook came out (4/7) I purchased the tickets and DH picked them up the next day. The lady at the store said they will be letting ticket holders in the door to pick their seats 1 hour before the event starts in the order of your ticket number. Your ticket # is designated by your ticket request. DH Called me on the way home from picking up the tickets and asked me if i wanted to know what ticket # me and dd were?

I said yes I hope we are in the first 50. He said Girl you and Mackenzie are ticket #1 and #2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am beside myself with excitement we are the first two in the door to pick our seats. Kenzie and I are running for the first row front and center. I am bringing my camera I cant wait.... I just had to tell you guys. We each got a autographed copy of the new "Deen Family Cookbook" along with our tickets.

These are the ingredients you will need: Grands Biscuits (Flaky), sugar, powdered sugar, zest of a orange, butter, orange juice, cream cheese and walnuts or pecans.

Preheat the oven to 350. Butter a 9-inch round cake pan. Separate the biscuit dough into 8 biscuits. Place 1 biscuit in the center of the pan. Cut the remaining biscuits in half, forming 14 half-circles. Arrange the pieces around the center biscuit with cut sides facing in the same direction. Hopefully you have a prettier cake pan that I do. I tried fitting this into a pie plate, but all the biscuits did not fit. :(

In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar, pecans, and zest; set aside

Brush melted butter over the tops of the biscuits.

sprinkle sugar and nut mixture over biscuits. for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Meanwhile, in a small bowl combine confectioners' sugar, cream cheese, and orange juice.

Blend until smooth adding more orange juice, if needed, to thin

Drizzle glaze over the warm coffee cake and serve.

I am so happy for you!!! How exciting!!! She is coming to Shenandoah, which is north of Tomball. I called but they are not selling tickets. We have to wait in line and they will take in the first 600 people. She's not doing a "talk" or anything. You just walk through and she signs your book and you keep walking. That will still be cool but still... I'm gonna call my mom and see if she's up for standing in line for HOURS!!!!!!!!! ughhh... I'm very happy for you though!!!! Keep us all posted!!!

Thanks Meg.

Kathy I would stand all day to see Paula Deen. Even if it is just a walk through to sign the cookbook. they said it would not be a greet and meet it will be a hour long conversation about her book. I am so excited that we get first pick of the seats Ü Just being in the same room is a blessing. They will do a ? and answer segment so i have submitted three questions. They said i could bring a gift if i want as well. The Local News is doing the ? and answer part. My dd loves paula we watch her show together Mackenzie said to bring her some butter LMBO!!

Anonymous, I only wish I could have the chance to meet her. We are going to get up front as close as we can. Hopefully that's possible being the first two in the door so we can get a close seat. I love watching and listening to her on tv she is such a nut I cant believe now i can listed in the same room and actually see her. I wish they would let us go through and meet her that would make my day. The cookbooks are autographed ahead of time by paula. I am not expecting that they will let us meet her so i am not getting my hopes up. Maybe they will pick one of our ?'s we submitted and they will call us out. (fingers crossed)I will take lots of pics of her. I will have to leave the gift for he staff, but that is still ok.

Sophie wow a comment from so far away Belgium how cool. I hope you like the coffee cake.
