Semi Homemade Peach Cobbler for "National Peach Cobbler Day"

Today is National Peach Cobbler Day! I made this cobbler over the weekend and it was so yummy. Who doesn't like cobbler, peach, cherry, apple blackberry or even strawberry. Whichever flavor it is, it's always a nice treat.

I call this Semi Homemade Peach Cobbler, because the pie crust is not homemade and the peaches are canned instead of fresh. In my opinion there are two types of cobblers. One with a biscuit topping and another using pie crust.

My husband prefers a pie crust cobbler over a biscuit topped. He also likes a double crust crobbler instead of a single top crust. It's really your own preference or what you grew up eating. For me I love them both ways.

If you're wanting a quick dessert or have some canned peaches, this is the perfect recipe. Happy Peach Cobbler Day!  Lets get started these are the ingredients you will need: cinnamon, sugar, peaches, cornstarch, double pie crust, butter and cinnamon sugar.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Prepare your pie crust according to package directions. I really like the Betty Crocker and the Jiffy Brand boxed pie crust mix. It is light, flaky and pretty cheap in price.

Add one layer of pie crust to a greased 8 x 8 inch baking dish.

I love canned peaches especially the dole brand they taste the closest to fresh. Drain the peaches and reserve the juice in a medium size pan.

In a medium size pan or bowl mix sugar, cinnamon and cornstarch together.

add the dry mixture to the pan of peach juice. Gradually bring to a boil. Boil 1 minute stirring constantly.

It won't take long to thicken up, so watch closely.

Add the hot mixture to the peaches and

pour into a 1 ½ qt or 8x8 pasty lined baking dish. Dot with butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. (no rule of thumb here as much as you like).

Top with second prepared pie crust and brush with melted butter. Sprinkle with plain or cinnamon. Cut a few slits into the top crust to vent the air.

Bake 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly.

Let cool and serve with vanilla ice cream.

I love the way you always know the national food days! Where do you learn this stuff? I love peach cobbler... the more crust the better, but my crazy husband doesn't like crust. If I make a homemade pot pie, he picks the crust out. He's insane!

Heidi does he like the peach cobbler with the batter type crust? If so Southern Plate has a great one it is her Mama's Recipe.

It looks really yummy!
And, since you asked, kinda, I don't like them. Have never figured out why unless it's because of cooked fruit maybe. I love fruit, but won't eat pies or cobblers. I am told that I am unAmerican! heehee

I like the biscuit kind and the pie crust type. That looks great, but how could it be bad with all that butter dotting it? Yum!

I sent you an email about an interview on Eat at Home. Just making sure you got the email.

I tried the cobbler recipe as it looked really easily. I guess I'm not good at following recipes because my cobbler came out runny!! My husband said the flavor was good and the crust was great but the filling was just running. I don't know what I did wrong!! :(

I have cooked this several times and it came out great. Thanks for posting.

After many fails at trying to find a peach cobbler recipe that could compete with my mothers, I hit the jack pot! This is by far the best peach cobbler I've ever made or tasted! Perfect amounts of everything and easy to cook if you follow the instructions. I will be passing this one on to my big sister who has been looking for a good peach cobbler recipe.

wow can't wait to try this recipe as I haven't had a good peach cobbler since my grandma used to make them which it has been years

This came out great even though ADHD makes it hard for me to follow a recipe. (I accidently used baking powder instead of cornstarch and had to start over. I wondered why the pot seemed to bubble up with no heat :))

i made this and it was great and my friend love it tooo!!

Thank you for a great recipe! Made it today and the only change I made was adding a pinch of salt to the syrup. My teen who says he doesn't like peach cobbler had seconds.

Try more cornstarch it depends on the amount of juice in your can

Can you drop the pie dough in like you would the biscuits ?

So glad I found this recipe and your site...just made this peach cobbler and EVERY SINGLE MEMBER of my family is smiling with a full belly. Hubby liked this better than the peach cobbler place we (used to) drive 1 hour for...SCORE! From one mommy to another, thank you for making me look like a super star with canned peaches. True happiness! LOL

Kind regards,

P.S. I used brown sugar instead and a bit more cornstarch & cinnamon and it was divine (I usually modify recipes in some way - call it taking creative license LOL)...the heavenly smell is still wafting through the house - yum!

This is the best cobbler recipe. I tweaked it a little by adding a little nutmeg and cutting back a little on sugar. Also used Pillsbury pie crust. Comes out Awesome. Thanks for recipe.

400 degrees or 450? Recipe shows both, but that seems a little hot.

Hello, I have been searching high and low for an apple cobbler recipe with pie crust. Do you think this recipe would work with apples? I'm not sure how I would make the juice in the pot without a juice, any suggestions? Thanks so much!

I must have missed a point. The corn starch never melted , it stayed in balls, did not mix in at all. What did i do wrong?
