Tequila Soaked Watermelon Wedges & Margarita Bites

Watermelon wedges soaked in a mixture of tequila, triple sec, lime juice, a bit of sugar and sprinkled with margarita salt. These adult watermelon wedges are the perfect addition to any summer cookout or get-together.
I hope everyone had a happy and safe Independence Day!! We spent the day at a cookout with some of our friends and had such a great time. It was a whopping 103 degrees yesterday so, I guess you could say that's a normal Texas summer day. I tried to get these recipes posted yesterday, but with everything that was going on I just couldn't find a spare moment.

The kids were ready to get going so I was really pressed for time. I did manage to get a few pictures of all the treats that I brought with us. I usually bring a nice dessert whenever we get together with friends, well this time I brought desserts specifically for the grown ups, Tequila Soaked Watermelon Wedges & Layered Margarita Bites!!!!!

I've had this dessert tucked away ever since I first saw the recipe in Martha Stewart's Living magazine. I thought it would be the perfect dessert to make for 4Th of July. I paired it off with these Layered Margarita Bites which from the Kraft website, so they were the perfect combination. Sometimes it is nice to make something special just for the adults.

These Margarita bites are quite addicting. They're smooth, creamy, and refreshing all at the same time. Don't worry I didn't forget about the kiddos I baked them a few sweet treat as well, so I was pretty busy yesterday. I hope you'll give these desserts a try because they were a huge hit at the cookout.

The Watermelon Wedges looked so pretty with the margarita salt and the limes. By soaking them in the Tequila and the Triple Sec it resulted in such juicy slices.

Here is a picture of the whole tray of tequila watermelon wedges. I had them soaking on two individual trays, then I just drained off some of the liquid, stacked the wedges and squirted lime juice all over. And lastly sprinkled margarita salt all over and garnished with extra limes.

I did not want to forget about the kids, so I made them some patriotic cupcakes and added sprinkles and pinwheels to the top. With everything I had to prepare, I took the easy route and used a cake mix, but I added some food coloring to add a little kick. I also baked up some Mexican Wedding Cookies, chocolate chip style. The kids were so excited when they saw the cupcakes with the little pin wheels on top.

Your recipes sound delicious! I do something similar with watermelon -- slice into small wedges (about two inches across) and dip into lime juice spiked with a dash of salt and a dash of Tabasco sauce. Heavenly! Happy fifth of July :)

I've never tried tequila watermelon..but I LOVE vodka watermelons. Even better is when you find the watermelon flavored vodka! Heaven!! But all I do is cut a hole in the watermelon and turn a bottle of vodka upside down in it and let it soak overnight. Delish!

Next get together I'm defenitely trying the Margarita Bites!!

Awesome job. They look great. We didn't get to BBQ this weekend. My husbands brother is the grill master in the family and he spent the day rotting in a church instead of rotting at the grill xD

I almost made this at my last bbq but ran out of time. How about that putting a hole in the watermelon and a bottle of vodka upside down posted by Emily? Great suggestion and too easy not to try!

I made your Margarita bites for our Super Bowl party, and they were such a hit! I wasn't sure why they were called "Layered" until I cut them up and started to plate them. So cool! I will be making these again, and maybe next time, I will make some "kid friendly" ones too since they love jello :) Thanks!
