Simple Fluffy One Hour Dinner Rolls

How to make buttery, soft and fluffy dinner rolls in about an hour! Brush with melted butter, honey butter or cinnamon butter just before serving.
Yesterday was a crazy day of grocery shopping and starting on our Christmas lights. We finally finished and I'm happy to say the lights are up and the yard is decorated. I have to admit adding all those lights and decorations can be kind of stressful, but standing back on the street and looking at it makes it all worth it in the end. I added a photo on my Face book Fan page if you would like to take a peek.

About a month ago I saw a recipe for the most beautiful yeast rolls at Jamie Cooks it Up. Have you ever seen Jamie's wonderful blog? If you haven't you really need to pay her a visit. Jamie has family friendly recipes and all her photos are just beautiful. I was so excited when she posted this yeast roll recipe. After seeing her photos I couldn't get those rolls out of my mind.

Simple Homemade Fluffy Yeast Rolls in about an hour. This really sounded like my kind of recipe. I knew Thanksgiving would be the perfect occasion to make these rolls. Quick is what I needed on that particular day and I wasn't disappointed in these rolls. I mean just look how golden brown and fluffy they turned out. I'm so happy I finally have a quick and easy yeast roll recipe that doesn't take me all day to make. In usual fashion the full recipe is at the end of this post.

These rolls rise up so nice and fluffy.

Yum! Look how beautiful and golden brown these rolls baked up. Slather on some butter and serve. My son fell in love with these rolls at Thanksgiving. Carson is a bread man like his mama.

Fluffy One Hour Dinner Rolls

Fluffy One Hour Dinner Rolls

How to make buttery, soft and fluffy dinner rolls in about an hour! Brush with melted butter, honey butter or cinnamon butter just before serving.
Prep time: 35 MinCook time: 20 MinTotal time: 55 Min

Ingredients

  • 3/4  cup milk
  • 4  tablespoons butter
  • 3/4 cup hot water
  • 4  tablespoon sugar
  • 2 - tablespoons honey
  • 1  teaspoon salt
  • 4  - 5  - cups all purpose flour (may need more)
  • 2  packets rapid rise yeast or 1 heaping tablespoon instant yeast

Instructions

  1. Pour your milk into a microwave safe container. Add your butter and honey to the milk and put it in the microwave for 1 1/2 minutes.
  2. While the milk warms preheat your oven to 170 degrees. Turn on the tap to get your water nice and hot.
  3. Temperature is important to making these rolls rise quickly. Put your hand in the water to test it. You want it to be just on the edge of unpleasant.
  4. Put your milk/butter and hot water in the bottom of your Kitchen Aid Mixer.
  5. Add the sugar and salt. Then add 2 cups of flour...let it mix for 1 minute. Add the yeast. Turn the mixer on and add the rest of the flour 1 cup at a time.
  6. You have enough flour when the dough scrapes the side of the bowl clean. Mix on medium speed for 5 minutes.
  7. Cover with plastic wrap and let sit for 5 minutes. You need the plastic wrap to trap the heat.
  8. Take a stick of butter and coat the inside of a 13 x 9 inch pan. Spray your counter, or a cutting board with cooking spray. Lay your dough on top of it.
  9. Take a sharp knife, spray it with cooking spray and cut your dough into 12 pieces. Make them as equal as you can.
  10. Gently round them into balls, and put them in your buttered 13 x 9 pan.
  11. Put the pan into your warm 170 degree oven. Let them rise for about 20 minutes or until they have risen about 1 inch above the rim of the pan.
  12. Leave your pan in the oven and turn the heat up to 350 degrees.
  13. Bake for 15 -20 minutes. This time includes the time it takes the oven to increase in temperature.
  14. Bake until golden brown. Brush with a little softened butter and serve warm.

Notes:

These rolls are wonderful slathered with Cinnamon - Honey Butter.

I just made these yeas rolls and I must say this the best recipe I have ever tried. They were easy to make, and nice and light. I was a bit concerned because the milk I used was spoiled, but being an at home baker, I know that spoiled milk is great to bake it. The rolls came out perfect. PERFECT. My family will have me making these rolls all the time.

Hi,
Looks like a great recipe. Is the yeast instant?
Tina Butler said…
Yes the yeast is instant. I fixed it in the recipe so there isn't any confusion.

After numerous failed attempts, I was becoming convinced that I just plainly lack the ability to make dinner rolls. These were so easy and they're the only ones that have ever turned out for me. Thanks so much!!!!

I needed some rolls in a hurry and found yours through an internet search! Thank you very much they turned out great. Took me less than an hour because I used my bread maker to mix the dough and rise for the 5 min. Delicious!

I was just wondering I'm making these on Saturday and I don't have a stand mixer .. Could these be made by hand?
shelleymgm said…
Can these be frozen and would they need to be thawed before baking? And like Linda, I don't have a stand mixer only a hand mixer.

I have a silly question. Do you use the whole stick of butter to coat the pan?

Hi Tina. Thanks for this great recipe. I'm very keen to try it. My husband literally bought me a stand mixer an hour ago. Do I use the dough hook for this? Also the link for the video is now private, do you know another link I could view the wonderful method of perfect round rolls? God bless you.

I came across this recipe and decided to give it a try, only I didn't have a mixer so I did all the mixing by hand with a wooden spoon. I must say these rolls were worth the effort!!! These were light and fluffy and will definitely be made in our house frequently!!! Thank you for the recipe!!!!!

I can't view the video on the fluffy dinner rolls, it says it's private and when I log in to you tube it says sorry about that and my log in info is correct so I don't understand. Who's permission do I need to get to watch the video.

I've made these rolls three times and they come out great. I use an instant read thermometer to make sure the water and butter/milk is between 120 to 130 degrees. I use exactly 4 1/4 cups flower, and use speed #3 (just between the #2 and #4 clicks) on the KA mixer for 4-5 minutes. It takes 25 minutes at 170 degrees to get a good rise, and then cook for about 25 minutes to get a good golden brown.

This was awesome! My husband even said they were close to his mom's rolls! I followed the recipe exactly and they came out beautifully. They took 1 hour almost exactly from start to finish. I used my pizza cutter to cut the dough. :) This recipe is a keeper!
