Quick & Easy Valentines Day Teacher Treats {Valentine Brownie Cookie Bars}

Valentines Day is only four days away. Having three birthdays and our wedding anniversary all in the same month hasn't left any extra time for holiday baking.  I love making homemade treats especially around the holidays, but sometimes even I need to take a few short cuts.

I promised the kids that we would make some teacher treats, so I was glad to have a little help from a Nestle baking mix and holiday cookie kit from Walmart. The kids and I had a lot of fun jazzing up the treats for Valentines Day.

All the items above can be found at your local Walmart. Nestle Toll House Cookie-Brownie Delights, 12 Heart Shaped Cookie Decorating Kit, Chocolate Almond Bark, Wilton Sprinkles, Large Treat Box with Stickers and Tissue Paper. I found the bakery boxes in the Valentine party supply isle near all the Wilton products.

The kids did all the mixing and I baked up the cookie brownie delights. After they were cooled we cut them into bars. The cookie bars were great by themselves. They had a soft brownie layer with a crispy chocolate chip cookie topping. Definitely the best of both worlds.

Since the treats were to be given to their teachers we thought they needed to be more festive. We added a little holiday flare by adding chocolate and sprinkles. I melted the almond bark and the kids dipped one end of the cookie brownie bars in the chocolate and then added valentine sprinkles.  I thought they turned out really cute.

Next on the list was decorating the Heart Shaped Shortbread Cookies. I left this part up to the kids. The Valentine’s Heart Decorating Kit had everything they needed to decorate all of the cookies (12 shortbread cookies, frosting, sprinkles and candy). The cookie kits were $6 and found in the bakery section. Not a bad price for a dozen cookies and decorating supplies.

The kids placed all of the goodies in these cute little bakery treat boxes ($1.88 each). Very pretty and so festive. I think the teachers will love all their treats.

Here are the kids with each of their treat boxes ready to be delivered to their wonderful teachers.

Valentine Brownie Cookie Bars

1 - Nestle Cookie-Brownie Delights box mix
9 - tablespoons butter
1 - egg
3 - tablespoons water
12 oz - chocolate almond bark (prefer Plymouth's Pantry)
Valentine sprinkles

Prepare the brownie and cookie batter according to the directions on the box. Using a spatula spread the brownie dough on the bottom of a greased 8 x 8 inch baking pan.

Sprinkle the cookie dough batter over the brownie batter. Bake according to box directions. When the cookie bars are baked remove from oven and let cool in pan for 15 minutes. Cut into bars and let cool completely.

Place the chocolate bark into a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on the defrost setting until the chocolate is completely melted (about 6 minutes).

Dip one end of the cookie bar into the melted chocolate and let remaining chocolate drip off. Add festive sprinkles and place on waxed paper until completely dry.

Recipe Yields: 12 - 16 bars (depending on size)
