If you're an apple lover, you are going to love this simple, slow cooker apple butter! 🍎 This recipe takes up to 10-12 hours to make, but it's all hands free and cooked in your slow cooker. I normally start my apple butter before I go to bed, so the majority of the cooking process is complete. In the morning you will wake up to the aroma of cinnamon and apples lingering through your house.
There's also no need to peel the apples for this recipe. I had a few bags of sliced apples with the skins on in my freezer and a few bags without. Both apple slices cooked up the same and the peels actually help to thicken up the apple butter. Don't worry that your apple butter won't be smooth by leaving the peels on. I use my immersion blender and my apple butter turns out super smooth every time.
Homemade apple butter makes a wonderful gift for the holidays, especially in a gift basket. Let me show you how to make this delicious apple butter easily in your slow cooker.
Spray a 6 quart slow cooker with non stick spray. Peel, core and slice apples (I used half peeled and half with the skins on that I had stored in my freezer).
Add as much apples as your slow cooker will hold. If using frozen apples omit the water or apple juice called for in the recipe.
Add the remaining ingredients and mix to combine.
Uncover and give the apples a good stir. Using an immersion or hand blender, puree the apples until smooth.
Cook an additional 2 hours on low (uncovered) to allow the apple butter to cook down and thicken.
When a wooden spoon placed in the middle of the apple butter can stand up on it's own the apple butter is thick enough.
Spoon the apple butter into clean, sterilized canning jars. Process jars in a hot water bath. 10 minutes for pints and 5 minutes for half pints. Apple butter can also be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze for longer storage.

Ingredients
- 6 pounds sliced apples (any variety) or enough to fill a 6 quart slow cooker
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 cup granulated or cane sugar
- 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup water, apple juice or cider (omit if using frozen apples)
Instructions

It's easy and delicious, thickened up nicely, too! It made 10 12-ounce jars of Apple Butter for me.
I'm refrigerating one to eat now and freezing the other 9 to give as gifts and dive into later.
I'm also going to experiment with the recipe because I would like it to be even a little more spicy.
Going to try one batch by simply heaping the measurements given to see how that might taste.
And, then also going to try a different batch by increasing the cloves to 3/4 teaspoon and subbing 1 teaspoon of nutmeg and and 1/2 teaspoon of allspice for the pumpkin pie spice.
I'm not a natural cook so I'm thinking with a recipe that starts out this easy and good, it will be a good one for me to learn on!
