With New Years day quickly approaching I thought I would share some of my family's favorite dishes for the New Years Day Meal. Whether or not these dishes bring good luck and wealth in the coming year, it's still a fun and delicious tradition in our family. I hope you'll give a few of these recipes a try!
Easy Crock Pot Pork Roast : I like to serve either ham slices or a pork roast on New Years Day along with black eyed peas or Hoppin John, cabbage, fried apples and cornbread or biscuit bread.
Slow Cooker Black Eyed Peas: Slow Cooker Black Eyed Peas are true southern comfort food! These peas are loaded with diced ham, onions, stewed tomatoes, spices and chicken broth, and slow cooked to perfection with a ham bone.
Southern Hoppin John: Hoppin' John is a classic southern dish made with black-eyed peas, rice and flavored with ham or bacon.
Texas Caviar: Texas Caviar is a black eyed pea salad lightly seasoned with a vinaigrette dressing and often eaten with tortilla chips.
Pan Fried Cabbage: Fresh cabbage lightly stir fried and seasoned with bacon, onion, salt, pepper and a bit of chicken bouillon.
Mexican Cornbread: My mother in laws Mexican cornbread is filled with cheddar cheese, jalapenos and creamed corn.
Southern Biscuit Bread: This biscuit bread is nice and crispy on the outside and cotton soft on the inside.
Hot Water Cornbread: Hot water cornbread is a mixture of cornmeal, flour and boiling water mixed together, shaped into small patties and cooked in a skillet with hot oil. Hot water cornbread is delicious served with beans and greens.
Skillet Fried Cinnamon Apples: Southern Fried Apples are a simple, down home side dish that pair perfectly with any country meal.
