Chocolate Pecan Pie

This Chocolate Pecan Pie has a delicious ooey- gooey chocolate pecan filling, baked in a flaky, buttery pie crust.
Pie season will be here before we know it, so I wanted to make sure to get this recipe posted on the blog. I have been baking this chocolate pecan pie for over 25 years, and for the life of me, I don't know why I am just now getting around to posting the recipe.

Pecan pie is definitely a holiday favorite, but chocolate pecan pie is the chocolate version of pecan pie, packed with toasted pecans and a rich, gooey chocolaty filling. This pie is always one of the first desserts to disappear from our holiday table.

You can make this pie totally from scratch or, if you're short on time, a pre-made crust can be used. My favorite is Marie Callender's. It bakes up flaky, golden brown and has a delicious buttery flavor. I normally bake this pie the day before serving, so it has plenty of time to set up. If you do bake this pie on the same day, I recommend baking it in the morning, and then when you're ready to serve, just reheat the pie in the oven until warm.

Chocolate Pecan Pie Ingredients:

  • Pie Crust - homemade or use a good quality store-bought, unbaked pie crust.
  • Pecans - I use organic pecans or pecans from our pecan tree.
  • Cocoa - unsweetened baking cocoa such as Hershey's.
  • Sugar - cane sugar or granulated sugar both work well in this recipe.
  • Flour - just a bit is used to help thicken the filling.
  • Evaporated milk - evaporated milk adds a richness and a slightly sweet flavor. Whole milk can be substituted.
  • Butter - use real butter do not use margarine.
  • Vanilla Extract - real vanilla extract or Mexican vanilla is best.
  • Eggs - No eggs need, this is an egg free recipe.

When you bake the pie place it on a baking tray to catch any spills and use a pie guard to ensure that the curst doesn't brown too quickly before the pie is fully cooked.

This chocolate pecan pie is the perfect dessert for anyone who loves pecans and chocolate. I would highly recommend doubling this recipe during the holidays, because this pie is going to be the highlight of the desserts table.
